The Thailand Flood 2011 is one that people will never forget. The Finance Minister released a statement a wees ago saying that the recent Bangkok flood is the worst that Thailand has ever seen. He also said that the flood did almost 4 billion dollars of damage. That is bad, but it is not even the worst part.

The Thailand Flood has killed over 280 people and injured thousands more. Additionally, Thailand is one of the the world’s top exporter of rice. More than 10 percent of the rice supply has been destroyed by the Bangkok flood. Experts are predicting that this will cause the price of food to increase. They are also predicting that this may also threaten the food supply in several countries.

Thailand Flooding is certainly nothing new. In November 1993, a Thailand flood hit that did over 1 billion dollars worth of damage. The particular flood was known as the worst flood that ever hit Thailand until the recent one hit. Thailand flooding has destroyed homes, businesses and lives. Fortunately, many other countries have donated food, money and other resources to the victims.

The Thailand Flood 2011 is one of the many floods that have occurred this year. People have noticed that the number of natural disasters have increased drastically in the past few years. Weather experts have stated that many of the natural disasters can be attributed to global warming. Global warming is largely caused by human activities. Global warming leads to climate change and climate change leads to unfavorable weather conditions. Humans can reduce global warming by driving less often, recycling and turning off appliances when they are not using them.

Hunger And Drought In Somalia: When hunger creates a crisis in African nations like Somalia, the result is delay in progress and reductions government revenues. According to several recent Somalian government officials, the reason for the hunger crisis is blamed on drought.

Human-Caused Global Warming Changes Weather Patterns
One result of human-caused global warming is radical changes to prevailing weather patterns across the globe. For Somalia, these changes cause massive drought. The drought of 2011 in Africa has untold consequences on human, animal and plant life. Hunger is the cruelest form of fatalities. It takes its toll on entire populations across Africa and weakens the fabric of human existence.

Drought 2011
At a time when Somalians are already in the throes of government unrest and widespread poverty, the severity of Drought 2011 exacerbates these internal issues. Are there ways to help the continent of Africa to deflect a future crisis like the extreme Drought 2011? With sound safeguards and profuse assistance, Somalians can rise above the frequency of extreme difficulties.

Help For Somalians When It’s Needed
While other nations concur on the most appropriate means of providing safeguards and assistance, action is the only real resolution. The government of Somalia must become far more proactive in voicing the needs of its people. In addition, the global community can, even in difficult economic times, grant exchanges of technologies such as desalinization of seawater for potable use and redesigning agricultural planning to suit a more productive harvesting of food supplies.

It Begins With Water
The starving Somalians must first be provided with potable water for their daily needs and to increase their ability to produce agricultural products. Thus, it appears the priority forthcoming from the global community should be to provide funding, expertise and training for technologies to increase the supply of potable water.

The natural balance that exists between man and nature can be very precarious. The constant misuse of natural resources such as oil, forest land and water bring things drastically out of balance. The damage that we do in a short amount of time can take decades for the earth to heal. Sometimes, we could feel the power of nature when it seems to strike back: High-intensity thunderstorms, hurricanes and related weather has been in part due to global warming, which man has helped to occur.

Nature Preservation

Another aspect of keeping the Earth healthy is nature preservation. By setting aside areas that are ecologically rich and protecting them from pollution instruction, animal species can have a safe place to live and grow. These areas are also wonderful places to teach children and adults about the benefits of nature and of cycles. The more that we can endear an understanding of why nature conservancy is important, the easier it will be to maintain the earth’s natural balance.

Conservation

Nature conservancy starts with private, state and federal organizations that are established for this purpose. Each state’s department of conservation has numerous resources, classes and nature centers that can help regular citizens to learn about nature preservation and how they can get involved. This organizations also help to protect the area set aside for preservation and monitor people’s use of these areas. Those that take advantage of the education offered through these organizations can play a major role in spreading the word to other people about the importance of why we should preserve nature.

Global warming has been in the news a lot lately. While some people argue whether or not the phenomenon is man-made, the evidence of global warming effects is undeniable.

Polar ice caps melting
According to NASA & The Natural Resources Defense Council, more than 20% of the polar ice cap has melted away since 1979. The melting appears to be accelerating. 19 of the 20 hottest years on record have occurred since the 1980s. The North and South poles feel these global warming effects most acutely – this is reflected in the melting of the polar ice caps and the rapid crumbling of the glaciers.

Sea Level Rising
Once such a thaw begins other factors keep it going. As the bright white ice caps melt, they no longer reflect the same degree of the sun’s energy. Polar ice is very reflective – 90% of the light that strikes it is bounced back into space. Ocean water is the exact opposite. When sunlight hits it, it absorbs 90% of the energy that it receives causing the water to retain more heat. This causes more rapid melting of the ice caps and the global sea level begins to rise. Scientists call this effect a feedback loop.

Sea-level rise is not the only side effect of the feedback loop. Ocean waters have warmed more than a degree since 1970. This warmer water and sea-level rise also leads to more violent weather including more typhoons and hurricanes. This is just one of the many reasons to keep a close eye on the global sea level and the polar ice caps.

As global warming effects continue, further changes in the climate will occur that will severely alter some iconic landscapes, regional economies and traditional ways of life.

A lot of politicians are talking about global warming, its impacts and about several topics which are dealing about human beings who are destroying our planet. But nearly nobody is making clear proposals what to do against these problems. Thirty years ago – some elder still remember – on some Sundays in a month nobody was allowed to drive a. So the “German Autobahns” were empty and ready to use for cyclists and hikers. But this was because of the oil crisis.

Nowadays, mother earth seems to answer back to all the bad treatments by its citizens, but no politician is talking about not using the car for a single day during the week. Just imagine if everybody on planet earth would not use a car for only one day in a week. That would reduce carbon dioxide emissions from cars for at least 10% – 15%. Everyone would be forced to use a bicycle to get from one point to another. Would you argue if this proposal would become reality?

Safe mother earth: change your habits

As I mentioned above I do not think that anybody of our so called “wise guys” will make proposals like that. National interests, economy and job security are much more of interest for politicians than earthquakes, tsunamis and famine. So it is up to everybody of us to do everything that we can to safe our earth.
Turn off lights if they are not used, switch off personal computers over night, use your bike instead of your car and avoid using planes for holidays. Spend your holidays in your own country and try to get a better feeling for things that pollute our nature and earth. If everyone is caring about these issues, we really can do it! Yes, we can!

This informative and really reflective article was written by Thomas from tomsbikecorner.de / Rosenheim.
